Hey there! Lucy here. I was thinking you may want to know who this lady is that creates all these gorgeous pieces of furniture. Right? Read on...
She was born in Orange, Texas and then driven right back over the border, over the Sabine River, to be raised mostly in Louisiana in a small town called Vinton. Her mama was 100% Cajun - that side of the family mostly spoke French. Her dad was 100% East Texas country boy from a cotton farming background. The two of them taught her how to farm, build houses, ride horses, party, and in general be self sufficient in all ways.
Shoot, here's a good example. Colene and her buddy Peggy wanted to drive from Vinton to Baton Rouge one summer when they were both only 16 yrs old. Well, there's a long, long bridge between Vinton and Baton Rouge that crosses the Atchafalaya basin. (That is really hard for a dog to say, Atchafalaya. Try saying it 5 times fast!) Her dad asked her, "What are you going to do if you have a flat tire on that bridge?" She said, "Get out and change it of course". He said, "OK, if you can go out in the yard and change a tire (on your badass 66 Ford Mustang) then you can go." So she pulled the tire off, called him out to look, put the tire back on, called him out to look, and then started packing.
That's right! My hooman Colene grew up on good Cajun food, riding bikes 'til dark, and at 5 years old she was swimming and skiing in the Sabine river. She said it's infested with snakes and gators. No thanks! Not for me! She learned to dance the 2-step and the Waltz and the Polka with the old people at the VFW hall (also known by the old Cajuns as The Dobb-you" Only pronouncing the W (with a Cajun accent) of the VFW. Who knows what that was all about, crazy Cajuns. (Cajuns, you know, the French Canadians in Louisiana that made Mardi Gras famous?) I heard that when she was in high school she learned how to crochet beads into necklaces and sell them at that VFW hall on dance night to the old ladies!
Anyway, incredible work ethic, integrity and insane sense of independence all are still deeply ingrained. Colene has reinvented herself throughout her life as circumstances required so many times its hard to keep count. Raised a couple of cool kids that have turned out to also be a bit crazy, independent and self-sufficient adults. She's had a bunch of dogs - none even came close to the likes of me by the way. At one point she had 11 Beagles because her dad used them to hunt rabbits! She's a sucker for us canines.
And the latest reinvention is refurbishing and upcycling furniture! The basic knowledge of "how to" and "you can do anything you set your mind to" was instilled in Colene by her parents.
Use leftover 2x4's and some galvanized pipe to make a desk? Sure, no problem.
Use a set of sheep shears to create a cool piece of garden art? - well of course!
Picking up a whole house attic fan out of the dirt and making it a hanging light fixture? Cake walk - although she did have a little help with the wiring on this one.
I love it when she really lets go and turns a $35 falling-apart armoire from Goodwill into a statement piece!
The latest thing I came up with is sniffing out side tables and turning them into luxury Canine Castles. Well of course, a perfect place for my afternoon nap. Every dog needs one. She just grabbed two of these things on the side of the road. From what I heard Colene say she had planned, they are going to be cool. Keep an eye out for them on the site. Watch for them!
This woman has been perceived as "literally crazy" by all of her many ex-husbands at one time or another. And most of her friends have made the same claim. Truth be told, I've wondered about her a few times myself. Now I think she's just the most awesomest hooman on the planet. And considering she's had friends that have stuck around for super lots of years, I think they feel the same way.
Basically I dig this lady a lot and and thought you should know who you're workin' with. I could go on and on about all the cool stuff she does but I will leave you to snoop through the website for the whole poop. Tell her your ideas and watch what happens!
