Vintage vs Antique - Who Cares?

Hello to all you Hoomans out there!

This is my very first blog post. Colene is busy painting inventory so she turned this over to me to “get it done!”. And being the scrappy little hustler I am, here goes…

Short and sweet, antiques are at least 100 years old. Vintage is at least 50 years old. OK, got it? And if anybody tells you different, send ‘em to me. So for those of you that want to ONLY buy antiques, now you have a guideline to go by.

If a piece of furniture is antique, it is not necessarily worth more than a vintage piece. Value is determined by a few things, foremost of which is SUPPLY AND DEMAND. Any of you guys remember that from Marketing 101? Sometimes this is referred to as RARITY. Next in line would be CONDITION and/or QUALITY.. Would you want it if it is the perfect piece and when I jump on it (I weigh 15 lbs) it falls apart? Of course not.

And here’s another little secret. Not everybody knows this 100 yr / 50 yr definition, so they will not always describe their furniture correctly. If it's important to you how old the piece is, then do your research! Most of you hoomans really just care if it fits your needs and is within your price point. Others are creating a “collection” of sorts, so age matters.
